Abigail + Spencer : 09/23/17 | Lakeside Rose Garden – Fort Wayne, Indiana Wedding Photography

Their story. Her words.

“Spencer and I went to high school together, and we had one class together our sophomore year. During that time, I had a crush on him, I thought he was super cute but I just admired him from afar. He was unavailable for most of high school, so it was just a small crush and I knew nothing would ever happen between us, plus we never really talked or knew each other.

Fast forward three years after high school, we run into each other at Flashbacks, both out with friends. I was minding my own business and then he came up to me and kind of started dancing with me and I was so confused, I asked him “do you even know who I am?!” And he said he knew who I was. Then he took a drink of the drink I had in my hand, without asking, didn’t like it and walked away….I wasn’t sure what to think, but it wasn’t the best first impression. I say first impression because we never really had a moment back in high school where we officially met each other, just had a class together. Anyways, it was a pretty awkward encounter but I was a little glad he knew who I was, since I definitely knew who he was. I was quiet in high school, so I was expecting him not to remember me.

A few months after our encounter, we started to interact a little more on Facebook, he was always liking things I posted and then he finally messaged me telling me how the things I posted always made him laugh really hard, “belly laugh” is how he described it. After that, we started talking more and then we finally hung out for the first time. I was incredibly nervous because I was hanging out with my high school crush, plus I still didn’t know how to feel about our last encounter. Turns out, we have a lot more in common than I would have ever thought and my first impression of him was not at all what he’s really like. He also apologized and felt horrible for how he acted when we saw each other at the bar, but it wasn’t a big deal. We instantly hit it off and it didn’t take long for us to be comfortable with each other. We talked about everything the first few times we hung out; past relationships, family, good times in our lives, bad times, and everything in between. There was a strong sense of comfort between us from the very beginning and I think that’s how we knew that what we were starting was definitely a good thing.

We started dating officially on Christmas of 2015, and he didn’t ask in any special way, we just kind of decided to make it official. A few months after we started dating, I knew I loved him. We had a few drinks one night and I texted my friend saying “I think I’m in love with him” and he read it over my shoulder but I didn’t realize it until the next day. I was totally embarrassed but I’ll never forget him taking my face in his hands and saying “Hey, don’t be embarrassed, I love you too” and I just melted. After we got that out of the way, it was time for me to meet his daughter Delaney. That scared me because I wanted her to like me because I love her dad, and it turns out I never had a reason to worry because she liked me from the moment she met me. I got to know her more and then eventually, I moved in with them and then we got a house the summer of 2016. We hit a lot of great milestones early on in our relationship but it never felt rushed, it always felt right. I always say that shortly after we said we loved each other, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. And when my relationship with Delaney got stronger, I definitely knew that I wanted them both in my life forever.

In February 2017, we had an opportunity to prove our commitment to each other and to providing a stable and loving environment for Delaney, so we decided to get married. We did the legal part first and because of some personal obstacles in our life, we were saving the ceremony for a later time. We picked out our rings together, so it wasn’t a surprise and he didn’t ask me to marry him in a planned out way. But he did it at home with Delaney there and to me, that was special and I loved it. I was just happy that we were becoming a family. So we got married in small ceremony at home with some family and then 7 months later, on September 23, 2017, we had our beautiful ceremony at Lakeside Rose Garden. That was such a special day for us and our family. Although we were already married, it was so wonderful to be able to have a ceremony with all of our loved ones there so we could all celebrate our marriage. It was a beautiful day.

I’ve rambled a lot, but the most important thing to mention is that I love my husband so much. One thing we’ve always said is that we’re pretty sure we were made for each other, God intended for us to be together, it just took a while for us to find our way to one another. The love we share is so real and it is exactly what I always imagined unconditional love is supposed to feel like. We always push each other to be the best versions of ourselves, we are best friends, and I can’t imagine spending my life with anyone else. Marrying him not only gave me a lifetime with the love of my life, but the best gift of all, is having Delaney as my stepdaughter. I love her as if she is my own and being her stepmom is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. I could go on and on about my husband but the truth is, our story isn’t complete without Delaney. We ended up exactly where we belong and I’m blessed to be doing life with my two favorite people.”

Weekly Photo Walk Challenge | Photo Projects

It’s hot today – the hottest day we’ve had so far this summer. I’m sitting at my patio set in the backyard while the boys nap. They are my heart, but I also know when I need to recharge my batteries – and that time is set aside for when they are sleeping. (Don’t ask me what I’ll do when they no longer nap!)

I have been thinking quite a bit about the concept of rediscovery and rejuvenation, whether it be in terms of self-care or creativity. I’m not in a position to sign up for regular Yoga classes at the moment, but I have set a schedule for myself to do my own mini Yoga sessions at home in the mornings, before I shower, and before bed. Having a bit of structure and a small goal in mind helps me stay focused. Plus, we all know how satisfying it is to cross off an item on our to-do list!

I decided I wanted to set some small, creative goals, too. I have embarked upon many photo challenges in the past, but I always fell short when it came to executing the photo-a-day aspect. I know I’m not the only one who has run into that problem, so I’ve decided to do a weekly photo walk challenge for myself and any friends/family/fans/photographers who want to join in!

I’m upping the ante a bit though. You see, I am a serious introvert. If I can do all the things at home, I will. A big reason I want to do this challenge is because I want (and need) to push myself. So, the only caveat to this challenge is that your weekly image comes from a photo walk – or any location that is outside your own property.

We will be posting our weekly photos on Sundays in my private VIP Group on Facebook. Below you will find the weekly themes for June – and since I’m starting this a bit late, we’ll only have 3 this time to finish out the month.

QUESTIONS

“But, Kasey, what if I’m not a professional photographer?”

No problem! Anyone can participate!

“What if I don’t have a big, fancy camera?”

You are free to use whatever type of photo-recording device you have, whether it is a big, fancy camera or your iPhone.

“What if I miss a week? Can I still participate?”

Omg, yes! You are free to come and go as you please. If you miss a week, no worries! Join in when you are able.

“Is it free? Is it a contest? Are the photos being judged?”

This is a free, friendly photo challenge. It’s not a contest and there is no judging of photos. The idea is to focus on your individual creativity, move outside your comfort zone, and push yourself a little bit. The bonus is that we get to watch each other grow as we share our photos.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Once a month, I will post that month’s weekly photo walk themes with unique hashtags for each theme. (Be sure to check back each month!)
  • During the week, go on a photo adventure outside of your property and hunt for something you feel represents the theme of the week.
  • Post your photo in our group that Sunday with the corresponding hashtag. (You are free to post more than one photo, but it is not a requirement.)
  • If you are a blogger and want to blog your weekly progress, drop your post link into the comments section below! (You can link to your blog when you post on Sunday, too.)
  • Feel free to share this with whoever you think might be interested – everyone is welcome!
